Trip Trap : When Classical Elegance Meets the Street
The beauty of music lies in its lack of boundaries. You can shape it, bend it, and force worlds together that were never meant to meet.
Trip Trap was born from a creative dare: an explosive collision between the timeless structure of classical music and the raw, rhythmic energy of Trap. Coming from a classical background, Trap was entirely out of my comfort zone. Yet, as I worked within my DAW, I could hear a bridge forming between these two distant shores.
The Psychedelic Handshake
I wanted to blend the elegance of orchestral melodies with dynamic, modern beats. The piano opens the track, providing the rhythmic impulse—preparing the ground for the Trap beats to make their entrance. Meanwhile, the flute and cello engage in a dialogue, acting as witnesses to this strange, new atmosphere.
There is a certain psychedelic quality to this encounter, which is why I chose an old hippie van for the cover art—a tribute to the magic of the 70s, reimagined with a classical twist.
The “KISS” Philosophy
In my compositions, I often lean on the “Keep It Simple, Stupid” (KISS) principle. I’ve been told in the past that my music has “too many layers,” as if that were a negative trait. In an era where attention spans are fading, some find complexity overwhelming. I take it as a compliment.
In “Trip Trap,” as in all my work, there are multiple dialogues happening simultaneously. My goal is to challenge the listener to pay attention—to be different.
A Universal Language
Ultimately, labels like “Classical” or “Trap” exist for streaming platforms and boxes. To me, music is just music. This experiment felt like a conversation between musicians from different countries, searching for a common language.
I’m still smiling at the thought of rapping over my own pieces, but I remain open. I welcome collaborations with any musician or rapper who is willing to put the music before the trends.
